Letters received, including letters, 1806-1813, sent to Alcha Van Doren; receipts, promissory notes and other financial documents; deeds and other real estate documents; wills, inventories and other estate papers; four photographs (including an ambrotype and a tintype in union cases); a colored drawing of a house (by Christopher Stryker, a black man?); a manuscript Powelson genealogy, 1914 (with additions to 1936), compiled by John A. Powelson; genealogical notes and compilations (mostly charts) pertaining to the Powelson, Van Arsdale, Van Doren, Van Nest and Wortman families and to the Craig and Lane families (ancestors of John A. Powelson's wife); a Dutch Bible (published 1700) containing a Powelson family record; miscellaneous newspaper clippings; and other papers. Also present are miscellaneous papers of other, related individuals, including members of the Van Nest family, especially Abraham Van Nest (d. 1826), a Somerset County constable who resided in Bedminster Township. Accompanying the Powelson family papers is a daybook, April 10, 1844-(February 25, 1846)April 2?, 1846, of William Hoover of Bedminster Township which pertains to the sale of lime.
